An Amazing Rhine River cruise on Scenic This was an amazing experience. It was our first river cruise and Scenic really hit it out of the park! The boat was beautiful, crew did everything to make our experience memorable, dining was Michelin-star quality and service. Excursions each day were very interesting and well organized. We visited two of the great European cathedrals in Strasbourg and Cologne, spent a morning basking in a spa at Baden Baden, and toured a 9th generation winery along the Moselle river. A highlight was a series of four talks by historian and author Robert Watson. He was very interesting and engaging. If we take another river cruise, it will definitely be on Scenic, and we would highly recommend this line and this cruise.

Take this tour!! I highly recommend this tour!!! We saw the Cairo nightlife in addition to tasting amazing food that we never would’ve been able to order on our own. We took a break at one point to sit outside at a colorful cafe and drink traditional mint tea. Our guide was the nicest guy!!!

Cairo in 2 days - experience for a lifetime We booked a 2 days private trip to see the highlights of Cairo, and we could see all the important sites without hurry. Mahmoud, our guide was telling all the historical details, he is very professional in egyptian history and he was very kind and friendly. Big plus that he also offered us a drink one day, and a tea on the other. The only negative experience was that we were forced to visit some shops to buy things (papyrus, parfume, souvenir), and we felt like that we have to buy something in order not to be considered rude. I would suggest to focus on the historical parts and dont involve clients in such awkward situations. Apart from this the 2 days were 10/10.

Before You Book

The questions travelers ask most before their first trip to Egypt.

What is the best time to visit Egypt?

The best time to visit Egypt is during the cooler months, from October to April. This period offers comfortable temperatures for sightseeing, with daytime highs averaging between 20°C and 30°C (68°F to 86°F). The weather is ideal for exploring Egypt’s famous sites like the Pyramids of Giza, Luxor, and Aswan without the intense summer heat.

  • Peak Season (December to February): These months are the most popular for tourists, offering mild weather but larger crowds and higher prices.
  • Shoulder Season (March to May, September to November): These months offer pleasant weather with fewer crowds and more affordable rates, making it an excellent time to visit.
  • Summer (June to August): While still hot, especially in southern Egypt and Cairo, summer offers lower prices and fewer tourists. However, if you choose to visit during this time, be prepared for extreme temperatures and consider staying in air-conditioned spaces during midday.

Do I need a visa to travel to Egypt?

Yes, most travelers to Egypt will need a visa. Citizens of many countries can obtain a tourist visa upon arrival at Egyptian airports, which is valid for 30 days. Alternatively, you can apply for an e-visa online before traveling, which is a convenient option if you prefer to handle the process in advance.

Is it safe to travel to Egypt?

Yes, Egypt is generally safe for tourists, but like any travel destination, it’s important to take basic safety precautions. Egypt’s major tourist areas like Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, and the Red Sea resorts are well-patrolled, and most visitors enjoy a safe experience.

  • Safety Tips: Be aware of your surroundings, avoid political demonstrations, and respect local customs and traditions. If visiting less-populated areas or traveling in rural regions, it’s wise to stick with guided tours provided by reliable tour operators like Tripianto.
  • Security Measures: Airports, hotels, and popular tourist spots have heightened security. Government-run entities and private companies take security seriously to ensure the safety of both tourists and locals.
  • Health: The country has modern healthcare facilities, especially in major cities. Always have travel insurance that includes health coverage.

What are the must-see attractions in Egypt?

Egypt is home to some of the most iconic historical landmarks in the world. Here are the top must-see attractions:

  • Pyramids of Giza: The ancient Great Pyramid of Khufu and the enigmatic Sphinx are world-famous and a must-see.
  • Luxor: Known as the world’s greatest open-air museum, it houses the Valley of the Kings, Karnak Temple, and the Luxor Temple.
  • Abu Simbel: These two massive temples were carved into rock by Ramses II and are a marvel of ancient engineering.
  • Nile River Cruise: A cruise between Luxor and Aswan offers scenic views of Egypt’s most impressive temples and historical sites along the way.
  • Siwa Oasis: A remote and tranquil escape known for its stunning natural beauty and ancient ruins.
  • Alexandria: A coastal city offering a mix of Greek, Roman, and Egyptian history, including the Library of Alexandria and Qaitbay Citadel.

How much does a trip to Egypt cost?

The cost of a trip to Egypt depends on several factors, including the length of your stay, choice of accommodation, and travel style. However, Egypt remains a relatively affordable destination for travelers.

  • Budget Travel: You can expect to spend around $50–$80 USD per day on a budget, including accommodation in hostels or budget hotels, meals at local restaurants, and entrance fees to major attractions.
  • Mid-Range Travel: For a more comfortable experience with 3- to 4-star hotels, guided tours, and dining at upscale restaurants, you may spend around $100–$200 USD per day.
  • Luxury Travel: If you prefer a luxury experience with 5-star hotels, private tours, fine dining, and Luxury Nile Cruises, your daily cost could range from $250–$500 USD or more.
  • Flights: International flights to Egypt vary, with round-trip fares typically ranging from $500 to $1,200 USD, depending on your departure location and the time of booking.

Overall, Egypt offers options for all budgets, making it a versatile destination for travelers seeking both adventure and relaxation.

Essential Travel Tips for Egypt

🌡️ Beat the Heat

Egypt’s climate can be intense, especially between May and September. Plan outdoor sightseeing—such as the Pyramids, temples, and desert excursions—early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Midday temperatures in Upper Egypt destinations like Luxor and Aswan often exceed 40°C (104°F) during summer.

💧 Stay Hydrated

The dry desert climate can cause dehydration faster than many travelers expect. Carry a reusable water bottle, drink regularly throughout the day, and keep electrolyte packets handy during long sightseeing tours, Nile cruises, or desert adventures.

💵 Carry Some Cash

While credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, malls, and larger restaurants, many local markets, small cafés, taxis, and souvenir shops still prefer cash. Keep a supply of Egyptian Pounds (EGP) for everyday purchases and tipping.

🕌 Respect Local Customs

Egypt is welcoming and accustomed to tourists, but modest clothing is appreciated when visiting mosques, religious sites, traditional neighborhoods, and rural communities. Lightweight clothing that covers shoulders and knees is both respectful and practical in the sun.

🧳 Pack for Temperature Changes

Days can be hot, but evenings—especially in the desert, on Nile cruises, and during winter months—can be surprisingly cool. A light jacket or sweater is useful year-round, particularly from November to February.

📱 Get a Local SIM Card

Mobile data in Egypt is affordable and reliable in major tourist areas. Purchasing a local SIM card at the airport or from major providers helps with navigation, ride-hailing apps, and staying connected throughout your trip.

📸 Carry Small Bills for Tips

Tipping (known locally as baksheesh) is a common part of Egyptian culture. Small tips are appreciated by drivers, guides, hotel staff, porters, and restroom attendants. Keeping small denominations on hand makes tipping easy and convenient.

🚕 Use Trusted Transportation

For convenience and transparent pricing, use ride-hailing apps in major cities whenever available. When using taxis, agree on the fare before starting the journey if the meter is not being used.

☀️ Sun Protection Is Essential

The Egyptian sun is strong throughout most of the year. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and lightweight breathable clothing to stay comfortable while exploring outdoor attractions.

🏛️ Allow More Time Than You Think

Egypt’s top attractions are larger and more impressive than many visitors expect. Sites like the Pyramids of Giza, Karnak Temple, and the Valley of the Kings deserve several hours each, so avoid overpacking your itinerary and leave room to enjoy the experience.
